World Youth Day 2008 in Sydney is the first time this international event has been held in Oceania and only the second time it has occurred in the Southern Hemisphere. An integral part of WYD is the Journey of the Cross and Icon.
While World Youth Day in Sydney is held from 15-20 July, there are a number of World Youth Day events being held in Adelaide in June. These include Six30, a World Youth Day Quiz Night, a Southern Cluster retreat and much more. See the website for full details.
As part of World Youth Day, the WYD Cross and Icon will make their journey around Australia.
The Journey of the Cross Icon will involve youth from all over South Australia, including young people from the indigenous, multicultural and refugee communities, in addition to many additional visitors coming to South Australia from overseas. It is estimated that up to 10,000 international visitors will arrive in Adelaide for WYD 2008.
WYD in South Australia, particularly the Journey of the Cross, will also encompass thousands of other individuals and groups from a wide range of ages and localities across South Australia.
