ADELAIDE BANK FESTIVAL OF ARTS

The Adelaide Festival of Arts is one of the world's great arts festivals.

From 26th February to 14 March, Adelaide is the hub for artists and audiences from around the world, with a feast of theatre, film, dance, opera and more.

See the Akram Khan Company with Sylvia Guillem in Sacred Monsters. These dance superstars have created a new language of classical ballet and the Kathak Indian dance style. Listen to American saxophonist Ornette Coleman; the Adelaide Chamber Singers perform Misere in St Peter's Cathedral; the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra play Dharma at Big Sur - an opus by Pulitzer Prize winning composer John Adams. In theatre, there's classics like A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof; or Children's Cheering Carpet by Italian children's theatre company Compagnia TPO; and Kommer by Kasys of The Netherlands. The Adelaide Festival of Arts also hosts the fabulous Writers Week and the 2009 South Australian Short Film Awards.

Check out the official website for a list of the festival's free events.

At the end of the night, the Persian Garden is the place to go. This exotic outdoor club nestles between the Adelaide Festival Theatre and the Dunstan Playhouse, spilling down through Elder Park to the banks of the River Torrens.

Relax in the Persian Garde's lounge pods every balmy night under the stars or hit the dance floor to the sounds of the best bands, DJs and surprise Festival artists from Australia and around the world. Featuring the masters and mistresses of hip-hop, funk, jazz, dance, global, electronic beats and everything in between. Look out for the pleasure domes which mark the gates to Persian Garden.

Artistic director Brett Sheehy describes Adelaide as "the place to which, every two years, artists and audiences from across the country and the region, flock to experience examples of the greatest art of our time".

The Adelaide Festival of Arts has created a strong tradition of innovation since 1960 inspiring celebration and presenting diverse art from across Australia and around the world. Held in the warm South Australian autumn in every 'even' year, this is a large-scale multi-arts event of extraordinary richness and diversity.
